From these words began one of the most celebrated film franchises ever created. In the original Star Wars trilogy, director George Lucas’s creative vision for a new kind of fairy tale reset Hollywood forever. But was it a new kind of fairy tale at all?
Join Atlee Northmore to discover the literary tradition embedded in the Star Wars universe, and how George Lucas brought medieval romance into the 20th and 21st centuries. We will take a look at the unique visual process of storytelling in film, excerpts from the screenplays, Lucas’s storytelling influences (and his influences’ influences), and how every scene of the original trilogy is steeped in the heritage of medieval romance.
Atlee Northmore studied Media Production and Writing for the Screen and Stage at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He has been a guest on The Literary Life Podcast several times to talk about film, and has given many film presentations on the Literary Life Patreon. After completing his course of study at UNC, Atlee discovered House of Humane Letters, and found the missing piece between his lifelong love of film and love of story. This webinar will combine those two loves.
