How to “Read” a Symphony: Revealing the Ingenuity of Haydn’s Symphony No. 42 in D Major (Webinar)

$15.00$40.00

Just as the modern reader struggles with the loss of the shared literary, cultural, and imaginative landscape of the literary tradition, so has the modern listener lost touch with the imaginative language of music.  C.S. Lewis says that it is the first duty of a reader to read the work like the original audience and this is no less true for a composition.  But how can we do that when we have lost the thread that links us to that tradition?

We will learn where the symphony comes from and how to encounter the journey it leads us on with Querida Thompson guiding us through Symphony No. 42 in D major by Franz Joseph Haydn –  the Father of the Symphony himself!

About the Instructor: Querida Thompson has been teaching how to listen to music for 20 years at the college level.  Join her as she draws on aspects of the Literary Tradition and Story to learn how to encounter the universal images through the sounds of the symphony.

Watch this webinar live on October 21st at 7:00 PM or watch later as a recorded video.

Individual Price: $15.00 or New Family Rate for three or more students: $40.00
