Few things divide us moderns from our ancient forebears as our different ways of understanding the past. We are apt to think of history as a science, the duty of whose practitioners is to describe, with clinical detachment, long ago events “as they actually happened, as plain matters of fact”. But in the world of ancient Greece it was not thus. Herodotus, the “Father of History”, created a grand and colorful narrative out of the often incredible tales and traditions of living or vanished lands and kingdoms, from Greece and Persia to Lydia and Babylon. Join Dr. Anne Phillips and Thomas Banks in an exploration of the world, method, and writings of the greatest of Greek writers and the very nature of history itself .
