How to Love Poetry: An Introduction to the Fundamentals of Poetry Webinar by Thomas Banks

Want to love poetry, but you just don’t know how to? Already love poetry but want to deepen your love and understanding? Join poet and teacher Thomas Banks to learn How to Love Poetry.

Mr. Banks will introduce the fundamentals of poetry–Rhyme, Meter, Form, etc–and remove some of the mystery and confusion around poetry as he leads his students through guided readings of some poems. Above all, he hopes to communicate the joy of the subject in all its richness and variety.

Poetry and Classical Myth Webinar by Thomas Banks

The influence of Greek and Roman mythology on English poetry has been immense. The imagery, recurring themes and narratives of the great works of the English language owe quite as much to the literary foundation of classical civilization as they do to the Bible itself. Thomas Banks, in his upcoming webinar, will introduce a number of great English poems inspired by ancient myths and comment on their literary and historical significance as well as their source material. William Shakespeare’s Venus and Adonis, John Keats’ Ode to a Grecian Urn, Alfred, Lord Tennyson’s Ulysses, and W.H. Auden’s Musee de Beaux Arts will be among the principal works discussed. The webinar will end with a question and answer session.

The Poetry of Advent Webinar by Thomas Banks

In the days leading up to Christmas, it is good to appreciate the poetry of the sacred season, of which the poets of England and America have offered so much. On December 4th, Thomas Banks will read and discuss several classic Christmas poems by George Herbert, Christina Rossetti, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and others with commentary on their historical background. He hopes that you will join him in this celebration of Christmas verse and the birth of the Lord.
