Update Regarding Canvas Learning Management System

Many of you know about the recent hacking of the Canvas LMS. While Canvas was quick to restore access to universities and other institutions, the version of Canvas that hosts our courses is still disabled. The official word from Canvas is that they do intend to restore these accounts but only after resolving the flaw that was exploited by the hackers. We do not know how long this will take, so we at HHL are moving all of your courses to a different LMS. This is, as you can imagine, a time-consuming process.

We have already successfully moved over quite a few courses to our new My Courses Dashboard on the HHL website. We had already intended to move our mini-classes and webinars to this platform over the summer. The Canvas issue simply moved up our timeline. All of your purchases are safe, and we think you will find the new dashboard much more user friendly and easy to navigate. We love it, and the feedback has been very positive.

Below I have outlined where we are in the process. Thank you so much for your patience. The Team has worked very hard to get you access to your courses as quickly as possible.

Mini-Classes:

Many of the mini-classes have been added to the My Courses Dashboard already. Check back daily—even hourly— to find your classes. If you have multiple purchases under different HHL accounts, let Kay know ([email protected]) so she can merge the accounts in the new dashboard. Purchases are recorded in our system under the email address that purchases the class.

Webinars:

Older Webinars can be accessed the way they always have been. On your HHL Dashboard, click on Orders, then click the order you desire, and then click the link to view the video.

Newer Webinars can be found on your My Courses Dashboard. We will be moving all webinars to the new system.

Conferences:

The 2026 Literary Life Conference can be found in your My Courses dashboard now. The older conferences and individual conferences talks are being added to the dashboard. In the meantime, you can access older conferences by logging in to your HHL Dashboard and clicking Orders, then clicking the order to view the playlist. Files and booklists will be added to the new My Courses dashboard.

2025-2026 Year-Long Classes:

The video playlists for current students have been moved to their My Courses dashboards. This is a temporary solution but will allow students to complete their courses.

Dr. Phillips has emailed her Latin students with instructions for completing the final. Mr. Banks will be sending out an email to his high school students next week. We are giving Canvas another week, essentially.

We do not have access to your graded assignments or the grade book. We will sadly have to wait until Canvas is restored. If you are graduating and need a grade for a transcript, email Kay ([email protected]).

The Future:

While we are eager for the restoration of Canvas so that students—and teachers—can access their course materials, HHL will no longer be hosting year-long courses on Canvas. We are exploring several other alternatives that will work better for us, and will not attract the attention of hackers.

Mini-classes will no longer be hosted offsite and will instead be hosted on the HHL website in your My Courses Dashboard. We think you will greatly enjoy the ease of access of the new system—and students will no longer have to deal with more than one login.

Again, thank you for your patience as we resolve this issue. I think you are going to love the new My Courses dashboard. If you have an urgent need to access a course that has not yet been added to the new system, contact Kay at [email protected]. Please include your order number.
